2-Ply Veneer

What is 2-ply veneer? This veneer is manufactured by laminating two wood veneers together and has a thickness of .040 (about 1/25") plus or minus .005. The face veneer grain runs 90 degrees to the cross banding (backing veneer) which provides stability and protection against bubbling that may occur if the veneer is not properly bonded to it's substrate. 2-ply veneer can bend around moderate curves in both directions. This type of veneer is very stable due to its cross grain ply construction and is often chosen when applying burls or other highly figured veneers because of the additional wood movement in these veneers. 2- ply veneer is also a good choice when veneering surfaces that may not be completely smooth because it is thicker than 10 mil flexible veneer, slight bumps or uneven surfaces are less likely to telegraph through the veneer and be visible. Unlike some other 2-ply veneers, our product contains a thin acrylic membrane to provide protection against bubbling, glue seepage.
