Inlay Materials
|
Many inlays sold over the
internet look very similar, however upon close inspection of our enlarged image
views, you can see the detail in our inlays is far superior than other
competitors. All of our inlay products are manufactured at the
highest level of quality using state of the art laser cutting equipment
and technology.
Veneer Inlays are available in two types; Inlay
Borders and Inlay Faces.
Inlay faces are created using a technique
called "Marquetry." Various pieces of veneer are cut out to fit a paper
pattern. Similar to a puzzle, these pieces fit together and are
assembled and shipped to you on a heavy paper tape backing.
Inlay borders begin as solid wood
laminations made up of two or more contrasting species or colors of
wood. These laminations are then cut into strips and sanded smooth
to a specified thickness. The resulting colorful strips are called
"Inlay Borders" and enable you to spice up your projects. Borders
range in width from 1/16" to 1-1/2" wide and are sold in 3 foot lengths,
the wider and more complex, the higher the price.
All of our inlays are approximately .025"
thick. When inlaying, route a recess slightly less thick than the inlay,
and apply either white or yellow glue to the recess itself, (not the
inlay). If you apply glue to the inlay, it may swell and not fit
into the recess. Glue in (tape side up). When glue has
dried, sand with 180 grit sandpaper to remove the paper tape and
level the inlay flush with the surrounding surface, then finish up with
220 grit paper. |
