How Fridge Thermostats Work

When you turn on your fridge, it will automatically start to cool down. The thermostat in your fridge is responsible for regulating the temperature inside the fridge.

The thermostat is located in the door of the fridge, and it works by controlling the flow of refrigerant. When the temperature inside the fridge gets too high, the thermostat will open a valve that allows the refrigerant to flow out. This will cause the temperature inside the fridge to drop.

And when the temperature inside the fridge drops, the thermostat will close the valve, which will stop the flow of refrigerant. This will cause the temperature inside the fridge to rise.

This process happens over and over again, so the thermostat will regulate the temperature inside your fridge by alternating between opening and closing the valve.

This is why the thermostat in your fridge is called a “hysteresis” thermostat. It’s also called a “bang-bang” thermostat because it’s always either on or off.

Why Fridge Thermostats Are Complicated

The thermostat in your fridge is actually a very complicated device. And while it does a good job regulating the temperature inside your fridge, it’s not perfect.

The problem with the thermostat is that it’s designed to be really simple. So it only has two settings: on and off.

But the thermostat isn’t really designed to work like that. In reality, the thermostat is more like a valve that can only be opened or closed. It’s not a full-fledged switch. This means that when the thermostat is set to “on” the valve opens and allows cool air to flow into the fridge.

When the thermostat is set to “off,” the valve closes, which cuts off the flow of cool air. That means that when you turn the thermostat to “off,” the temperature in your fridge will drop even more than it normally would. And this is what you want.

To achieve this effect, you need to keep the valve open. You do this by setting the thermostat to “heat” or “cool” instead of “off.” That way, the thermostat doesn’t close the valve and allow the fridge to get colder. The trick is that you can only set the thermostat to one of these two modes. If you set the thermostat to “heat” or “cool,” then the valve will always stay open.
