If you’ve ever owned a Master Lock combination lock, chances are you’ve forgotten your combination at some point. It can be especially frustrating if you have a lock with a serial number, which makes it difficult to reset the combination. But don’t worry, there is a way to open your lock.
How Do You Open a Master Combination Lock With a Serial Number?
If your lock does provide a serial number, the easiest way to retrieve your combination is to take your lock to any local Master Lock Distributor in your area; think of Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. With the serial number, they can look up the combination on their database. If you don’t have a particular store near you, you can also contact Master Lock directly and they can send you the combination if you provide them with the serial number.
If you don’t have the serial number, you may still be able to retrieve the combination. Depending on the age of the lock, you may be able to open it using a particular sequence of numbers. The sequence is usually four to five numbers long and is printed on the back of the lock. If you can’t find this sequence, it’s time to try some guesswork.
Start by turning the dial to the left three times and stopping on the first number of the sequence. Then turn the dial to the right, stopping on the second number of the sequence. Turn the dial to the left and stop on the third number of the sequence. Finally, turn the dial to the right and stop on the fourth number of the sequence. If the lock opens, you have the correct combination.
If this doesn’t work, you can try different combinations until you find the one that works. It’s important to remember that all Master Lock combination locks require the dial to be turned three times to the left before you start.
If all else fails, you can always call a locksmith. They can usually open the lock without the combination, though you may have to pay a fee.
No matter what method you use, you should be able to open your combination lock without too much trouble. With the right combination or a little bit of guesswork, you should be able to get your lock open in no time.
