Did you ever come across a situation where you have to use some extra force to open your lid and washer? Yes, you are right because lid locks on the washer are becoming very common now a day. In some cases, if the washer is used by the kids then they might damage the motor, but in some cases the lid locks are due to the water leakage.

Here we will discuss some effective tips to remove lid lock on whirlpool washer.

Lid lock on washer

If you have used your washer properly then there is no chance that you will get lid lock. But there are some cases when the washer is leaking and then you have to use extra force to open the lid. If you have noticed that you have to press the power button more than 15 times to open the lid then this is the case.

Why does the lid lock?

The lid locks are mostly due to the water leakage, if you don’t want this issue to happen then you have to keep your washer clean and dry. So, if the water is leaking then the washer will not be able to start and this is why it is locked.

What you need to do to remove lid lock?

First of all, you have to unplug the washer and remove the cover, if the water is leaking then the water will go inside the washer and it will affect the motors. After removing the cover, you have to check the motors and see if there is any problem.

After checking the motors, if everything is fine then you can start the washer, if there is any problem with the motors then you need to repair it as soon as possible. You can replace the motor if you want to but I will not recommend it.

If the problem is not solved by repairing the motor then it is better to change the motor as it will cost you a lot.

How to bypass lid lock on a washing machine

If you don’t want to spend money on tools and you don’t have access to a workshop, the only option for you would be to take off the lid of your washing machine.

Step 1: The first thing you need to do is remove the bolts from the lid of your washer. I took off the top two screws but you can take off the whole top cover if you prefer.

Step 2: Once you have the lid off, take a look inside. You should be able to see the motor inside the washer. In most cases, there are two large metal brackets on either side of the motor that attach to the frame. Remove them by unscrewing the bracket and pulling the motor out.

Step 3: Now remove the screws from the base of the washer. There is a small tab at the back of the base which needs to be removed.

Once you have removed the screws, you can take off the bottom cover. It is important to keep the lid on the washer as it is very heavy.

Step 4: Now remove the screws from the top of the machine. There are two long screws that need to be removed.

Once you have removed these, you can lift off the top cover. You can easily slide the top cover to the side and you will see the inner motor casing.

Step 5: The motor casing has a thin cover that protects it from the water. You need to remove this by sliding the cover to the side. You will need to pull the motor out.

Step 6: You will now see the motor itself. Take the motor out by turning the two plastic handles on either side.

Step 7: If you have taken off the plastic handle, you can remove the motor by sliding it out.

Step 8: You can now replace the motor and the screws.

Step 9: Finally, you can replace the washer lid.
